The learning focus for these weeks is as follows:
- Body parts in Spanish: Students labeled a body diagram and learned to sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" in Spanish. After acquiring these words in Spanish, students played the game, "Simon Says", in Spanish, to prove proficiency. They also had the chance to draw their own monster, and labeled the body parts of their monster they created.
- Spanish Greetings: Students learned some simple vocabulary to have a quick greetings conversation, and they also learned to sing through the conversation while singing along with a couple videos that model this vocabulary.
- Culture Minutes: Cuba and Argentina have been the countries of focus for these weeks. We first locate these countries on Google Maps. We also learn a bit of history, geography, and culture through class conversations as well as while watch various videos that show and tell about these countries. We also take a look at their flags and compare / contrast their flags to the United States flag.
- Valentine's Day / Friendship Day in Latino Culture: Students learn that other countries have several different days to show others that they love them. For instance, in Argentina, they celebrate "Friend Day" on July 20th. Students watch a short video that demonstrates this, and talk through a series of questions about the video and in relation to the idea of friendship, love, connection, and care.
